An interesting month .. finding my feet and improving the entries in my diary (reproduced on these pages) by March 4th.  It should not be necessary to include much of the trivia in a Narcotics / CID diary but it should be borne in mind that i was a successful new boy in an office that was awash with personalities (egos) that were not necessarily inclined to assist.

Within two days of improving the diary content, I found myself named in a complaint that had been made about a narcotics officer. This was no inter colleague rivalry with a fellow detective constable being the subject of an allegation.  This was a complaint aimed at the highest ranking narcotics officer, detective Chief Inspector Ramsey.  As I came to earn, the man was a joke, but at the time I was surprised to learn that 'my boss', after only about 3 months of working for him, was apparently undertaking a character assassination.  The report submitted against Mr Ramsey by DC Mathews is reproduced at '6th March A45'.

The 15th March 1989 saw me create the report that was effectively  my resignation from the narcotics department.  The back-stabbing in the narcotics office was pathetic.  The actions of a few self-serving officers was unbelievable and went unchecked.  The narcotics office was actually a shambles - unprofessional and ineffective.  Personalities dominated the section and nothing was done about it.  There was no discipline.

This month also saw many hours of overtime not claimed.  i spent a great deal of my own time attending to correspondence and following up enquiries to ensure my working day could be constructively spent catching more drug users / pushers.

In March,  as an 'accepted' face, i was able to have a look about the office and realise just how poorly equipped we were.  I tested the night scope on the 2nd March, a rather busy day with 3 arrests.  I also started to cultivate informants / friends ... people you could rely on more than some of your work colleagues!

Bermudapolicerecord is not a official Bermuda Police web site but independently maintained.  However, the diary entries are an accurate representation of former Detective Constable 217's
daily diary of activities on the island's of Bermuda from 1988 to 1991.  The officer probably had the highest arrest and conviction record on the island.  However, he was eventually the subject of unsubstantiated petty allegations in respect of which the island's police service, in breach of its own disciplinary regulations, did not hold a disciplinary hearing.  Instead, the then Commissioner of Police Clive Donald, declined to renew the officer's contract.  For further information, please follow the links: Complaint / Subverted & Betrayed / Back-Stabbing
